DR. LATEEF OLAYEMI KOLAQ

“I was born into alternative medicine practice because my father is still an alternative medicine practitioner based in Kaduna. Yet, I will say destiny has a hand in it because out of my father’s six children, I am the only one who took after him despite the fact that I am neither the first nor the last; I am the fourth.

All the drugs I use come from herbs. The herbs are sourced both locally and internationally. I have about three to four companies in China that supply me herbs. Sometimes I carry herbs from Nigeria to China for sale. It is a kind of give-and-take thing. The drugs are in powdered form or capsules. Whichever way, they serve the same purpose.

I have about 16 branch offices. All of them have doctors and consultants, capable hands who were all trained by me. Some of them spent seven to eight years under me as students. Our head office is in Ikeja.”

On Spiritualism: “In the olden days, people merged alternative medicine with spiritualism. Some people still do it today. That creates a very bad impression making some people think that an alternative medicine practitioner must be a spiritualist…I believe in prayer. I advise people who have spiritual problems to go and see their Pastor or Chief Imam. I don’t handle spiritual problems; it is health problems that I treat with herbs. It is not good to merge alternative medicine with spiritualism.”

On NAFDAC: “almost all the drugs I use here are with NAFDAC. They have accredited some…I believe that very soon, those that are yet to be accredited by NAFDAC will be accredited.
Dr. Kolaq is married with children.
